Activities at The Lake Lodge

Boating:   With 21,000 acres of surface area, Lake Corpus Christi has endless
possibilities for boating.  The Lodge is located on a point that fronts the main lake, and
is ideal for sail boats, power boats, or jet skis.  Beside the lodge is a natural inlet that is
perfect for the beginner canoe or kayak enthusiast.
[ We do not rent boats, jet skis or canoes]

Fishing:   Blue, Flathead, and Channel Catfish are throughout the reservoir.  Catfish
can be found not only in deeper water but are many times found in shallow areas (8
feet or less).  Cheesebait and cutbait are favorite baits for average sized blue cats.
The larger flathead and blues prefer live bluegill and shad.  Large flatheads congregate
in creek channels and the main Nueces River channel.  The lake record flathead is 60
pounds.  Lake Lodge Resort is located along a natural creek channel and its pier
reaches just to the edge of the channel.  Largemouth Bass fishing is its best during the
spring, fall, and winter months.  Experienced anglers can find bass during the summer
months also.  Popular baits include spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, rattletraps, crankbaits, and
unweighted soft plastic worms and jerkbaits.  Summer baits focus on topwater lures
such as buzzbaits, Zara Spooks, or Pop-R’s very early or very late in the day or
throughout the day if there is a cloud cover.  Another technique for summer bass
fishing is to use spinnerbaits along sloping gravel points early in the morning.  When
nothing else works jigs, plastic worms, and tube baits in heavy shaded covered areas
are often productive.  The lake record  largemouth bass is 13.5 pounds. Crappie are
very popular in the area.  A lighted fishing pier provides an excellent location to fish
for crappie.  Live minnows or small crappie jigs are best baits for crappie.  White Bass
go through an “annual run” from December through February in the Nueces River
channel as they head upstream to spawn. Favorite baits include live minnows,
rattletraps, shad raps, small spinnerbaits, and small grubs.  During warmer months
white bass will be found in deeper water.  Jigging spoons or small rattletraps trolled
deep near the main lake can produce good results.

Skiing, jet skiing, and tubing:  These are popular sports for water enthusiast during the
late spring, summer, and early fall months.  A popular site for skiing and tubing is
Brown’s Cove. The cove is totally protected from rough waters by a landmass that
blocks it off from the main lake except for two natural inlets.  It is truly a jet-skiers
paradise.  The cove is located adjacent to Lake Lodge Resort.  So just hop in your
boat, skip over to the cove, and jump in the water for all the skiing and tubing
excitement you can stand!

Swimming:   The terrain at Lake Corpus Christi consists of two distinctly different
shorelines.  The west side of the lake, for the most part is located on high bluffs.  Many
homes have extensive stairs leading down to the lake with just a pier to access the
water.  The east side of the lake is primarily a gently sloping shoreline.  Since The
Lake Lodge is located on the east side of the lake its shoreline is gently sloping with
sandy beaches which makes for relaxing swimming and wading. Even during severe
droughts, when other ramps are closed, we can launch jet skis and small boats.
